Here’s something we’d love to do!

I am indebted to Jim Fuller for recently sending me text of a letter written on 17 Nov 1911 by Stanley White of the British & Colonial Aeroplane Co. to Col Edmund Antrobus requesting permission to fly ‘the new Bristol monoplane’ over his land including Stonehenge for some publicity photographs. This was contrary to an agreement between the two parties, whereby the Flying School would normally not fly over the ancient monument. The request was approved two days later.

There are currently no links to any known photographs, however the date of the request suggests the new aircraft was an Prier monoplane introduced that autumn… similar to the one shown in this photograph obtained from Sir George White… descendant of the founder of the Bristol Company.
